COUNCILMEMBER FARBER <br />SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO HIRE STEVE WENSMAN AS PLANNER FOR <br />THE CITY OF ELK RIVER EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY WITH THE WAGE TO BE DETERMINED <br />FOLLOWING A MEETING OF THE PERSONNEL COMMITTEE. COUNCILMEMBER <br />FARBER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> <br />Review Street/Park Department Summer Work Schedule and Consider Request <br />to Hire Maintenance Employee <br /> <br />Phil Hals reviewed the summer work schedule which included clean up of the <br />May 14 wind storm. He requested the Council to consider hidng a full time <br />Maintenance I employee now to assist with some of the clean-up and other <br />work tasks. He indicated that this position is slotted for 1999. Phil Hals also <br />requested authorization to hire an additional summer employee. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE STREET SUPERINTENDENT <br />TO HIRE A MAINTENANCE I EMPLOYEE AND OTHER SUMMER EMPLOYEES. <br />COUNCILMEMBER FARBER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> <br />Other Business <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO CALL A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL ON JUNE 3 TO HEAR A PRESENTATION FROM DECISION RESOURCES <br />REGARDING THE SURVEY RESULTS FOR THE UPCOMING REFERENDUM; THE MEETING <br />TO BE AT 6 PM AT CITY HALL. COUNCILMEMBER FARBER SECONDED THE MOTION. <br />THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> <br />MAYOR DUITSMAN MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR TO CONTACT <br />THE STAR TRIBUNE REGARDING THE CARGILL MATTER. COUNCILMEMBER <br />THOMPSON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> <br />Tour of Wastewater Treatment Plant and Presentation of Annual Repod <br /> <br />WWTS Superintendent Darrell Mack presented the 1997 Wastewater Treatment <br />System annual report. Following the report the Council recessed at 7:30 p.m. <br />The Council moved to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Mayor reconvened <br />the meeting at 7:45. The Council toured the plant. <br /> <br />7.
