Elk River City Council Meeting <br />March 16, 1998 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />3.6. <br /> <br />MOTION TO ACCEPT JON ANDERSON'S RESIGNATION FROM THE PLANNING <br />COMMISSION - APPROVED <br />APPOINTMENT OF JOSEPH SCHUSTER TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION TO <br />COMPLETE JON ANDERSON'S TERM EXPIRING ON 12/31/98 - APPROVED <br /> <br />4.0. Lake Orono Update <br /> <br />Building and Zoning Administrator Steve Rohlf updated the Council on the need <br />for an individual permit from the Army Corps of Engineers for the Lake Orono <br />dredging pro]eot. He indicated that an archeological survey is required and will <br />cost about $1,000-$2,000. He further stated that this survey must be made part <br />of the lake pro]eot. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER FARBER MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR <br />AN ARCHEOLOGICAL SURVEY FOR THE LAKE ORONO DREDGING PROJECT. <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5- <br />0. <br /> <br />4.1. Community Recreation Update <br /> <br />Community Recreation Director Jeff Asfahl updated the Council on recent <br />Community Recreation activities. <br /> <br />4.2. Utilities Commission Update <br /> <br />Utilities Commission member John Dietz updated the Council on recent Utilities <br />Commission discussions and activities. <br /> <br />4.3. Boys and Girls Club Update <br /> <br />Daryl Thompson updated the Council on the site preparations and fundraising <br />projects that are taking place. <br /> <br />4.4. GFOA 1996 Finance Award <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman thanked Assistant City Administrator/Finance Director Lori <br />Johnson for her work in obtaining a Cedificate of Achievement for Excellence in <br />Financial Repoding for the 1996 Fiscal Year. Lori Johnson indicated that the <br />achievement could not have been attained without the full support and work of <br />her depadment. <br /> <br />4.5. Consider Request for Contribution to Rivers of Hope Or.clanization <br /> <br />The City Council reviewed the request for a donation or an agreement for <br />services from the Rivers of Hope organization. Councilmember Farber stated <br />that the Rivers of Hope organization is a worthwhile organization that will help <br />stop the cycle of violence in the community. He indicated his support of the <br />city contribution to this organization. <br /> <br />Councilmember Thompson indicated that he would rather have a yearly <br />amount set in the city budget to donate to this program.
