commercial and residential notables -- ranging from Richfield's Best Buy and St. Paul's U.S. Bank to
downtown Minneapolis' upscale Carlyle and Grant Park condo and townhouse complexes.
His latest and largest project yet, the Bridges at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, taps both ends of his real
estate experience. "It's a lot of retail and a fairly sizable housing component," Menke said.
"Fairly sizable" may be a bit of an understatement. With an eventual goal of 4,000 to 5,000 residents near
all the essentials of daily life, Bridges is more village than complex. The development is located just north
of the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes and Maple Grove Main Street.
Menke said the build-out is slotted as five-plus years, but that much of the first phase is complete. Of the
first 194 homes, 100 are now sold and constructed. Most are 1,500- to 2,200-square-foot townhomes and
range from $220,000 to $400,000. The first-phase investment alone surpassed $50 million.
Paul Andrescik
As a former state trooper and now Carver city alderman, Paul Andrescik is always up for a challenge.
Andrescik is the new land acquisitions manager for Albertville-based K. Hovnanian Homes.
Former Pulte Homes Division President Thomas Standke established the local K. Hovnanian offices just
18 months ago, and Andrescik himself has held his position for just 10 weeks.
Nevertheless, Andrescik is confident in his and K. Hovnanian's ability to make their mark on the
Minnesota scene. "We have about six projects right now and six more in the pulpit. The goal is to be No.
1."
K. Hovnanian communities are now located in Elk River, Albertville, Eden Prairie, Chaska and Victoria; in-
progress developments include communities in Lakeville, Farmington, Lake Elmo and Stillwater.
Andrescik said the company naturally chose to begin development in the northwest quadrant, as "the
growth through the 94 corridor and Maple Grove speaks for itself."
Recently, he has been hunting for land along the Northstar Corridor rail line. "That area is beautiful, and I
see growth from the northwest suburbs all the way to St. Cloud, and [St. Cloud] becoming another suburb
of Minneapolis/St. Paul."
Vaughn Veit
Vaughn Veit is the third-generation owner, chairman and CEO of Veit Cos. -- one of the largest providers
of demolition, disposal, environmental, site preparation and other specialized construction services in the
Upper Midwest.
Veit spokesman Chuck Geisler said the Rogers-based company has most definitely benefited from the
explosive growth in the northwest suburbs and "look(s) forward to serving our clients that have expansion
plans along the I-94 corridor."
Notable Veit projects in the northwest suburbs include site development for Riverwood National Golf
Course in Otsego, post-construction final cleaning of the new Cabela's, site grading and utility installation
for the Waterfront East project in Otsego and the expansion of Industrial Boulevard in Rogers.
Duane Grandy
