"But in terms of creating a destination location that will draw people from the entire state and five-state
area, and beyond, the stadium offers that rare opportunity."
LouAnne Reger
The Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Woman Business Owners named LouAnne Reger
its woman business owner of the year.
Reger is CEO and president of Maple Grove-based J&L Steel Erectors, a $10 million subcontractor
supplying union ironworker labor to the construction industry. J&L installs reinforcing steel, structural steel
and ornamental railing.
Under Reger's direction, J&L has steered away from commercial and toward highway-heavy work. Reger
said it was simply a matter of figuring out what the company did best and focusing on that. "We're doing
as many sales with less people."
Although J&L has worked as far away as West Virginia, the majority of the subcontractor's jobs are in the
metro area. Other than constructing Xcel's King Plant in Bayport, J&L is sticking to bridge work and has
won several notable contracts, including rehab of the Stillwater lift bridge and the construction of 27
bridges in the Chaska-Highway 212 overhaul.
Reger also is keeping an eye on the Legislature for the go-ahead to work on the Highway 610
interchange near the new Cabela's in Rogers, and also along Highway 81 in Maple Grove.
"If the governor does a special session, that'll be one of the things we'll look at bidding," she said
Dave Carland
Minneapolis-based CSM Corp. is often recognized as the award-winning renovator of the Milwaukee
Road Train Depot in downtown Minneapolis. "Our experience, particularly in
Plymouth, is that the local government is very pro-business, and while they have high expectations, city
officials appreciate swell-thought-out development plan."
This September, CSM purchased the Freeway Office Center in Brooklyn Park for $9.9 million. In addition,
it began construction of the Shops at Plymouth Creek; re-opened a newly renovated Marriott Minneapolis
West on Interstate 394 and an adjacent restaurant, Kip's Authentic Irish Pub and Restaurant; and just
purchased the Progress Casting building in Plymouth.
CSM also is teaming up with Realife Corp. to build several senior co-ops in the Twin Cities, South Dakota
and Oregon. In the northwest metro, the companies are looking at sites in Buffalo, Minnetonka and
Waconia.
Dave Menke
Dave Menke has been with Opus Corp. for 10 years, including three in his current position as vice
president of real estate development for Opus Northwest.
