in the water." <br />Charles Laszewski can be reached at 651-228-5458 or claszewski@pioneerpress.com. <br />Northstar commuter rail <br />1997: A joint powers board of 30 governmental bodies forms the Northstar Commuter Development <br />Authority to push for a train line from Minneapolis to St. Cloud. <br />2000: The Federal Transit Administration authorizes preliminary engineering work. <br />2003: The line is cut back to run from Minneapolis only to Big Lake. <br />2005: The Minnesota Legislature approves $37.5 million for Northstar in the bonding bill. Three months <br />later, the U.S. Congress approves $80 million for the project. <br />2006: Gov. Tim Pawlenty recommends $60 million in the bonding bill for Northstar. Committees will hold <br />hearings on it this month and will act on the bonding bill by May.
