Each group was <br />asked to review, discuss and respond to four topics <br /> <br />Topic # I - Vision Statement <br /> <br />Each group was asked to review the draft Vision State- <br />ment and to suggest specific additions and deletions. <br /> <br />Group 1 <br /> <br />1. Add to second bullet under "Distinct Identity" the <br /> Mississippi River as a distinct and important re- <br /> source. (Keep the focus on the rivers; Elk River is <br /> a river town.) <br />2. Delete water treatment in the "safe place" category <br /> and place in 1't bullet of "maintain environment". <br /> <br />Group 2 <br /> <br />Strengthen "Works to achieve the vision" to allow <br />greater public input into decision-making process, <br />go that citi~en'g voiceg ate ligtened to pad irmorpo- <br />rated into decisions. <br /> <br />Group 3 <br /> <br />1. Lack of industrial/professional development <br /> <br />Topic #2 - Commercial Development <br /> <br />Future land use plans need to provide more area for <br />commercial development. Use the map at your table to <br />show where new commercial should be planned. Lo- <br />cations may be new development on vacant land or the <br />redevelopment of existing commercial areas. Reach <br />agreement in your group on the five most important <br />goods and services to bring to Elk River in next 10 to <br />20 years. What does the community need?
