6.Lobby Expansion for the Arena / Naming Rights for the Arena Arena Manager, Rich Czech discussed a rendering of the proposed lobby expansion. Park and Recreation Director, Bill Maertz, stated that the council had a chance to look over the options that were provide by R.J.M.. The council liked option # 2, which is about 2.2 million. The council thought that this was a little high and directed staff to go back to the artistic and make a few changes and to see if the original numbers were accurate. Bill indicated that the original numbers where program numbers, just giving a rough estimate cost of the square footage. R.J.M. went through and did an itemized construction estimate, which put the cost of the project at about $181.00 a square foot., which includes design fees, and construction costs. This brings the project to about 1.8 million. Bill has asked R.J.M. to take about 200 square feet of the project so that the cost of the project would be below 1.8 million, maybe another $150,000.00 to 200,000.00. The feeling was that with the public works expansion the council is a little hesitate to add another building expansion at this time. It was felt that with naming rights, it could give the boost the project needs to keep the project moving forward. Alternative funding was discussed about the expansion. (6:52pm) Commissioner Page and Parks Director Bill Mertz left for Parks and Recreation meeting. 7.Skate Club Representative to Arena Commission Rich Czech, Arena Manager noted that if the the Arena Commission were to expand by one person it would be the largest Commission the city has. He also noted that Commissions do not have equal numbers and that we may be better off bringing this item to the council if we wish to move forward with it. Commissioner Martin thought that if Skate Club would like to have some representation on the Arena Commission, they could have one of their members run for an at large position. It was noted by the Commissioners that the Skate Club could come to open mike or approach any of the Commissioners with their concerns. 8.High School Coaches Wall of Fame Rich Czech, the Arena Manager, noted that Kent Madsen is still on board to work with putting something together for the players hall of fames as well as the coaches wall of fame. If all goes well, Kent should have something for the commission to review by August. Discussion took place if assistant coaches should be noted.
