Elk River City Council Minutes <br />September 29, 1997 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Other Business <br /> <br />Councilmember Holmqren - City Government Class <br /> <br />Councilmember Holmgren requested volunteers to help present information to <br />students at the senior high for the classes in government. <br /> <br />Staff Updates <br /> <br />The City Administrator indicated that the Minnesota Spods Federation (MSF) is <br />scheduled to hold a meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6, at City Hall with <br />our area legislators, House Representative Bruce Anderson, and Senate <br />Representative Mark Ourada. The purpose of this meeting is to review state grant <br />opportunities for amateur sports federations. <br /> <br />The City Administrator indicated that the FBI has requested to use the house <br />which the city is purchasing north of the library for a training exercise on October <br />9, 1997. The City Council indicated it had no problems with this request. <br /> <br />Worksession on Development Issues <br /> <br />The City Administrator provided an overview of the goals for the meeting and the <br />information which would be presented by the staff. <br /> <br />Western Area - The City Engineer reviewed transpodation issues including the <br />county plan, a bridge over the Elk River, the Waco Street alignment at Highway <br />10, and a frontage road east of Waco Street. <br /> <br />Director of Economic Development Paul Steinman reviewed the Economic <br />Development Strategic Plan for the addition of business park properties to the city <br />inventory and what properties in the western part of the city are included within <br />this plan. <br /> <br />City Planner Steve Ach reviewed land use options around the County <br />Government Center and the proposed rezoning of residential property to business <br />park. <br /> <br />A video tape was shown on industrial activities. <br /> <br />The City Engineer reviewed the county petition for public improvements, lateral <br />sewer line extension options, and the long term trunk sewer and water proposal. <br /> <br />The City Planner reviewed the Chuba development proposal west of Waco <br />Street. <br /> <br />A general discussion took place on transportation, land use, and utility issues. <br /> <br />MAYOR DUITSMAN MOVED TO HAVE THE DRAFT CITY TRANSPORTATION PLAN <br />CHANGED TO SHOW THE INTERSECTION OF WACO STREET AND HIGHWAY 10 TO THE <br /> <br /> <br />
