Northern Lights AthleteUllage
Twin Cities Area, Minnesota
Theowners ofthe Northern Lights Juniors Hockey Team in Minneapolis
have been looking for a site for over eight years to build an athletic
training facility that would attract local, state, regional, professional,
international and Olympic class athletes. Designs have proved on three
possible sites. This particular sites was in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The programme intent is to always reuse any existing facilities on a site
as well as adding indoor sporting venues such as a two sheet ice arena
and a curling rink, Olympic natatorium, gymnasiums for basketball,
gymnastics, and wrestling. Outdoor fields are also programmed for
soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball, Nordic skiing and training trails.
The program also includes a conference center/hotel/banquet facility
that will act as host for any and all events in the Village. A residence
housing component for the Northern Lights Junior hockey team is
included for out-of-town/state team members and the team will call
the arena their home and practice facility.
A regional sports medicine clinic will be a major tenant in the facility,
along with a number of nonprofit organizations which support similar
activities on the community, state, national and global basis.
*The project was designed by Architect Chuck Frieberg while in prior
association.
htg-architects.com
•

~-~."
architects
~ _ _ ~; .~
~. ~
~~.~~.
',_,. ~
