architects
Lawrenceville, New Jersey
Lawrenceville School
~~

Lawrenceville School's existing arena was a seasonal rink open to
the elements on three sides. It did have a metal roof structure that
covered a sand floor surrounded by a heaving concrete perimeter slab
supporting very old wooden dasher boards.
A Lawrenceville School Alumni thought the hockey program deserved
better. He commission the arena be enclosed and turned into a state
of the art, year-round hockey Arena.
The original roof was removed and additional steel support added.
The arena was enclosed with a masonry insulated exterior with
bricks matching the campus. Two varsity locker rooms, four visiting
team locker rooms, two coaches' offices, a new refrigeration system, a
refrigerated concrete floor, new aluminum dasher boards, new boards
on the seats, and an ice re-surfacer room completed the arena.
The fireplace was enclosed in a large room, maximizing the views of
the arena and the wooded campus with as much glass storefront as
possible. Chairs, tables, benches, couches, a piano, rest rooms, and a
kitchen were added, so the room could function as the concessions
area during games and as the Student Union during the remainder of
the year.
*The project was designed by Architect Chuck Freiberg while in prior ~ ~ _ ~- ~ -~~- -
association. ~~''
rr4.-~~ ~ ''"l-.t..x3i....
