a
i
i
i

St.Thomas Academy Ice Arena
Mendota Heights, Minnesota
...~
:JA
Size: 36,550 SF - $4.8 million
Sitting atop a hill overlooking the Mississippi/Minnesota River Valleys,
the St. Thomas Academy Ice Arena is "home ice" to the St Thomas
Academy boys' high school hockey program, as well as the University
of St Thomas Division III NCAA men`s and women's hockey programs.
The arena consists of a single NHL sized rink with 1,500 permanent
seats. There are three varsity locker rooms and four youth hockey
locker rooms under the seats. The facility also has coaching offices,
weights and conditioning room, on site physical therapy room, and
team meeting rooms.
In addition to the lobby/concession area there is, on the south end of
the rink, an Alumni Room used by the alumni association for pre- and
post-game celebrations, as well as a team parties.
The site was designed to also accommodate a second sheet to the
west of the original arena. The arena is an NHL size (85 x 200) rink,
supported with a storage room for the dasher boards during the off
seasons, a refrigeration room, and an ice re-surfacer room. Future
plans include alobby/warming house/locker room facility.
The St Thomas Arena opened in September of 2003. Shortly after
the opening, the Cadets of St Thomas Academy went on to win back
to back championships in the Minnesota State High School Hockey
Championships.
*The project was designed by Architect Chuck Freiberg while in prior
association.
htg-architects.com
•

architects •
