i P P P P P P 1 1 Cottage Grove Second Ice Sheet and Renovations Cottage Grove, Minnesota ,~r: ~~,t,.~. Size: 41,820 SF - $6.3 million The City of Cottage Grove was experiencing pressure for more ice time from two high school hockey programs, a growing youth hockey program, and the Cottage Grove Figure Skating School. The decision was made to add a practice sheet of ice to their existing Cottage Grove Arena. Decisions focused on the programming for the second ice sheet. The architect pointed out a number of options available for the City to consider and the program was revised: The new arena became a game facility with 650 permanent seats and the needed hockey locker rooms. With the arena now a game facility Cottage Grove's Hockey Tournament play would expand, bringing a larger number of fans, thus requiring a major redesign to the very small existing entrance to the complex. When completed, the expanded main entry, skyway connector, and public rest rooms were more than tripled from their original size. The completion schedule and original budget for the project were reviewed and minor modifications were made.The arena was still able to open in October of 2008. Cottage Grove Arena was featured in the September 2009 addition of Star Rink Magazine.
