Update on Tree/Brush Clean Up - Phil Hals <br /> <br />Street/Park Superintendent Phil Hals gave the Council an update on the storm <br />brush clean up. He stated that his department has been cleaning up trees and <br />brush for 6 days. To date they have hauled 60 tandem loads of brush. He <br />indicated it would take another 1 1/$ to 2 weeks to complete the clean up. Phil <br />estimated it is costing $175 per hour ($7,000 a week) in manpower and <br />equipment rental for removal only and this does not include disposal expenses. <br /> <br />Phil noted that Fire Chief Bruce West may give special permits this winter to burn <br />the brush they have collected. <br /> <br />Phil noted that there have been no problems with the brush clean up process. <br />He stated that they may be able to purchase equipment, such as a very large <br />chipper, cooperatively with County through the use of SCORE funds for these <br />types of situations. <br /> <br />5. Other Business <br /> <br />Mayor Duitsman and Councilmember Holmgren indicated that MnDOT <br />complemented city staff and expressed their appreciation for being invited to <br />visit project sites in Elk River. <br /> <br />Councilmember Thompson Items <br /> <br />Councilmember Thompson asked if the Council would be interested in meeting <br />with a representative of Minneapolis Boys/Girls club before a regular Council <br />meeting to discuss what the organization is all about, its goals, how it is run, etc. <br />The Council agreed to this type of presentation and discussion. <br /> <br />Councilmember Thompson suggested the compost site be open at least 1 day a <br />week for residents to drop off grass clippings, yard waste, etc. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dietz Items <br /> <br />Councilmember Dietz stated that he felt there should be an agreement with <br />school district to install two additional soccer fields at Meadowvale, not to turn <br />over two existing fields, as part of ALC proposal. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dietz noted the following update items from the latest Utilities <br />Commission meeting: <br /> <br />1. Suggestion that the City Council consider permanent sprinkling ban. <br />2. Utilities Commission is not in favor of cellular phone antennas being <br /> placed on water towers. <br /> <br />6. Staff Updates <br /> <br />City Engineer Terry Maurer updated the Council on city projects. He noted that <br />Proctor is temporarily closed at Highland due to the watermain project and <br />should be opened by Friday. <br /> <br /> <br />
