ELK RIVER LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
January 25, 2000
Robert ones, Vice Chair present
Eleanor Holm, Secretary absent
Leslie Anderson present
Geraldine Graham present
Also present: Mick Stoffers, Librarian; Verne Oleksowicz, GRRL
Meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Robert Jones, Vice Chair.
It was determined that a Quorum was present.
Election of officers for 2000 was postponed until next meeting.
Action related to Secretary's report of Nov. 23, 1999 meeting was postponed until
next meeting, since members Graham and Anderson were absent from the Nov. 23,
1999 meeting and could not act on those minutes.
Stoffers reported that there were no correspondence or suggestions from the
suggestion box.
November 30, 1999 Treasurer's report was discussed. Board agreed that it wants to
see the amount of reserve fund on the year-end report. Board also agreed that it
would like a brief training session on understanding the financial reports, to be
conducted by a city official. Stoffers will invite a city official to future meeting. A
motion to approve Nov. 30, 1999 Treasurer's report was made by Graham and
seconded by Anderson. Approved unanimously.
Librarian's report by Mick Stoffers:
Old Business: Anew microfilm reader/printer has been purchased and is now
in use. Users so far say that it's simple to operate and user friendly. Final price was
just under 56,000. This is a significant cost reduction from the initial bids last year
for two reasons: a less expensive machine was sought, and the library qualified for
special government pricing. The machine has a 90 day warranty. A bid for a
maintenance contract is forthcoming, however, in the past the library has found that
infrequent need for repairs on this type of equipment does not usually warrant the
expense of an ongoing maintenance contract. Board will discuss the bid when it's
received. Graham will contact the newspaper to explore possibility of news story or
photo. Graham will also prepare a sign to be posted on the machine to acknowledge
the donors whose contributions were used to purchase the machine. Stoffers will
explore options or requirements for disposal of old machine.
Service Master cleaned the carpet on January 20, 2000.
(continued on page two)
