Hals, Street/Park Supt.

February 6, 1997

Handicap Parking Downtown

I have received a request from a group of senior citizens that use the services
of a downtown chiropractor regarding the need for marked handicap parking
stalls on the south side of Main Street. At the present time there are no
handicap parking stalls on the south side of Main Street from Lowell Street
to Highway 10.

I suggest converting four parking stalls in front of the EDA site to three van
accessible handicap stalls. This would allow users ramp access to the
sidewalk via the alley entrance. Three handicap stalls in this location should
provide adequate coverage for the south side of Main Street from King
Avenue to Parrish Avenue.

Please advise me how to proceed with this issue so I can respond to the group
requesting the change.

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
