ITKM 9.4. ~.ty of MEMORANDUM iver Mayor & City Council FROM: DATE: Pat Klaers, City Administrator January 21, 1997 ' .~ SUBJECT: Ice Arena Update At the January 6, 1997, City Council meeting, the two final appointments to the Ice Arena Commission were made. The members of the Commission are: Jeff Gongoll Dale Martin Thomas Kupka JeffAsfahl Dave Taus Larry Farber Ron Johnson The Council now has to establish the terms for these individuals. By ordinance (see attachment), all terms are for three years, but we need to stagger them initially so that we have two or three appointments considered each year. In this regard, both youth hockey representatives and both public representatives should not come up in the same year. It is suggested that the appointees serve the following terms: Jeff Gongoll School Representative 1 year* Jeff Asfahl Community Recreation 3 years Larry Farber City Council 3 years Dale Martin Youth Hockey 2 years Dave Taus Youth Hockey 3 years Ron Johnson Public I year Thomas Kupka Public 2 years *Jeffs term on the School Board ends at the end of 1997. These terms are only a suggestion and can be changed by the Council. It is appropriate to have two or three members up for reappointment at the end of 1997. Please note that I will be suggesting that this agenda item be moved to after Item 7.2. so that it can be before the Council around 7 p.m. This suggestion is based on my request to Pat Barnett, construction manager for the ice arena project from Mortenson Construction, to be in attendance at this meeting to review with the City Council the overall project and the status of the 13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
