Project Funding <br />Projects of this magnitude require considerable amount of public funding. ~VhiIE the <br />phasing of the projects would lessen the overall financial burden and make the projects <br />doable, it is crucial to maintain the overall vision of the project. Qnce priorities have been <br />defined, project phasing determined, and project costs established, the next step is to <br />identify funding for the projects. <br />The City may have various existing funding resources at its disposal and there are a <br />number of other funding options that will need to be explored and pursued for the various <br />components of the project. <br />City staff is the best resource for identifying and pursuing the various funding options, <br />Following is a list of the funding sources that may be available for the various projects. <br />Minnesota Department of Natural Resources <br />The Minnesota DNR has grants available for creating cross country ski trails., regional <br />trails, trailheads, archery ranges and outdoor recreations grants. <br />Bro~rnfield Pilot Cooperative <br />Loan funds are available for either real or perceived environmental contamination. The <br />two functional categories that are eligible are community development and environmental <br />quality. Community development would include construction, technical assistance, <br />operations and services. Environmental quality would include research, education and <br />training. <br />~~ U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service <br />.m Funding may be available for creating habitats for wildlife and migratory birds by <br />~~ conserving andlor creating wetlands or uplands. <br />Sherburne County <br />Some funding may be available from Sherburne County for establishing trails, trailheads <br />and other local and regional park amenities. <br />LT.S. Environmental Protection Agency <br />Grants are available for cleaning up brownfields and redeveloping these sites ~~iith "smal-t <br />growth" initiatives. Grants .may be available for creating the ponds that would clean up <br />any runoff. <br />Metropolitan Council <br />;fit Various environmental grants are available from the Metropolitan Council for cleaning <br />up sites and creating amenities that create a livable city. These amenities could include <br />parks and trails. <br />l F <br />?'
