B. A few building repair issues need to be handled. The front door broke and some
lights are not working properly.
C. A bid of $2150 for expanding our sprinkler system by two zones was received
from Great Northern Landscapes. This would cover the areas where we have trees
and do away with the need for tubs around the trees to keep them watered..
Irrigating the remainder of the Library property will be proposed for the 2011
budget at a cost of $4000-$5000. There is $1900 available for the two zones in
2010 because of money saved on mulch, better price on tree planting and not
buying the tubs. Mick thought she could find the extra $200 needed for the
additional two zones somewhere is our 2010 budget. There was Board discussion
about the $2150 bid from Great Northern Landscape. It was decided that it was
cost effective to add the two zones now instead of purchasing tubs to make sure
the trees are properly watered. The addition of the two zones would also keep
more of the Library property properly irrigated.
MIKE HANGAARD MOTIONED TO PAY GREAT NORTHERN LANDSCAPES
$2150 TO INSTALL THE TWO ADDITIONAL SPRINKING ZONES. AARON
ZIEGLER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED 4-0.
6.Old Business
Branch Manager Mick Stoffers said that she has not heard back on the issue of whether
we should allow organizations who are collecting registration money to use the
Community Room. Council Liaison Nick Zerwas said he will again ask City Attorney
Peter Beck for an opinion on the issue. Zerwas said that he is opposed to any money
changing hands in the Community Room and that allowing registrations there for some
groups would open a can of worms. The Library Board will wait for an opinion from
Beck and the Elk River City Council on the issue.
7. New Business
Branch Manager Mick Stoffers said that if any Board member has items that they would
like to see included in the 2011 budget they should give her a call within the next week.
Liaison Nick Zerwas told the Board that City Parks & Recreation Director Bill Maertz
had resigned to take a job in California. Zerwas said the City Council has not made any
decisions on how or when to replace Maertz.
8 Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7 p.m. Next meeting will be
held on June 22, 2010.
JAYNE DIETZ MOVED TO ADJOURN THE MAY 25, 2010 LIBRARY BOARD
MEETING.
