Page 2 <br />ARTS IN HARMONY <br />OPENING RECEPTION <br />January 22 <br />The opening reception for the <br />"Arts in Harmony '96" National <br />Juried Art Show will be held at <br />7:00 pm, on Monday January 22, <br />1996 in the Sherburne County <br />Government Center. <br />This show is expected to be the <br />second largest juried art show to <br />be held in Minnesota this year, <br />and it will be the only national <br />juried show held here. The show <br />prospectus was mailed to over <br />1,200 artists in 25 states. <br />The number of entries is expected <br />to be high because of the show <br />promotion that has taken place <br />and because of the Purchase <br />Award being offered by the <br />United Power Association. <br />Many of the artists will be on <br />hand for the opening. You are <br />invited to meet them and to see <br />the exhibit which will run through <br />March 1 st. The exhibit can be <br />seen during the regular <br />Government Center hours. It will <br />probable take more than one visit <br />to fully appreciate all of the works <br />in the show. <br />Minnesota <br />Association <br />of <br />Community Theatres <br />The Minnesota Association of <br />Community Theatres (MACT) is <br />for theater lovers who want to <br />share information and resources. <br />A bimonthly newsletter, MACT <br />Facts, lists plays scheduled to <br />show throughout the state. <br />There are periodic workshops; a <br />recent Saturday featured director <br />Michael Brindisi on the actor/ <br />director relationship, actress <br />Shirley Venard on creating a role, <br />and designer Amelia Breuer on <br />low- budget costumes. The MACT <br />hotline provides audition <br />information. <br />There is also a biennial play <br />festival and plenty of chances to <br />network. Membership for <br />individuals is $15. For further <br />information call 644 -1187 or <br />write MACT, 245 Cedar Ave., <br />Minneapolis, MN 55454. <br />MADE AN <br />ONIPORI SSWOM 0 <br />All those attending the Annual <br />Celebration on November 9th. <br />made an impression by helping <br />paint wall designs depicting a river <br />scene, a town street, and wall <br />graffiti. They then impressed <br />each other by becoming after - <br />dinner musicians playing state -of- <br />the -art pipe chimes. <br />But, by far the most lasting <br />impression of the evening was <br />made by Elk River High School <br />Senior Shanti Goth. She spoke <br />about how art inspired her. Her <br />speach is published in the <br />"Writers Corner" this month so <br />that it can be shared with those <br />who were not there in person to <br />hear her speak. <br />SENIORS CLASS <br />Do you need a new mug for your <br />morning coffee? Would you like <br />to make gifts for your <br />grandchildren? Or have you just <br />always wanted to try working <br />with clay? Take this new class <br />for seniors only at Northern Clay <br />Center (NCC). Learn basic <br />handbuilding, glaze techniques, <br />and develop your own ideas. <br />The class meets for four weeks <br />on Mondays from 9:30 am. to <br />11:30 am. starting January 8th. <br />The course fee is $50. Northern <br />Clay Center is located at 2375 <br />University Avenue W., St. Paul. <br />To register, either visit NCC, or <br />call 642 -1735. <br />The Northern Clay Center is 0 <br />regional organization whose <br />purpose is the advancement of <br />the ceramic arts.
