Commuter Rail Corridor <br />Coordinating Committee <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION TO THE COMMISSIONER OF TRANSPORTATION <br /> <br />#2001-03 <br /> <br />Meeting Date: August 23, 2001 <br /> <br />Subject: 2002 Legislative Proposals <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />The CF{CCC recommends that Mn/DOT join the Northstar Corridor Development <br />Authority in pursuing legislation that would: a) authorize state bonding authority to <br />finance the $120 million which is needed from the State of Minnesota to match federal <br />and local funding for the construction of the Northstar Project; b) provide for an <br />exemption from paying sales tax on fuel used for the operations of the commuter rail <br />system*; and c) provide for an exemption from paying sales tax on materials, supplies <br />and equipment used in the construction and equipment of commuter rail projects*, <br />including railroad cars and engines. <br /> <br />Mn/DOT Response Requested By: September 13, 2001.
