The blue, red, yellow and
white are reminiscent of the Hiawatha
Light Rail trains, while the design
keeps the bold yellow "Northstar" icon
that has become well-known during a
decade of project development.
Passenger cars will have a similar
look.
Work Continues
Northstar is gaining speed-moving closer to the opening of
Minnesota's first commuter rail line.
Funding Secured
Northstar cleared its final financial hurdle on December 11,
2007, when it received a commitment for $156.8 million in
federal matching funding for construction and trains via the Full
Funding Grant Agreement. This also triggered the release of
$97.5 million in state bonding funds dedicated to the project.
The state and federal funding, combined with the significant
commitment of the regional rail authorities for Anoka, Hennepin
and Sherburne counties, as well as contributions from the
Metropolitan Council and the Minnesota Twins, allows Northstar
construction to get fully underway.
- Multimodal Station and LRT Extension, Downtown Minneapolis -Two Fifth Street North bridges are
being rebuilt to allow for the Hiawatha Light Rail Transit extension to meet up with Northstar adjacent
to the new Twins' ballpark.
- Northstar Vehicle Maintenance Facility, Big Lake -Construction is well underway at County Road 43
and U.S. Highway 10. Construction will be complete in 2009.
- Locomotives are on order and will begin to be delivered in fall 2008.
- Construction of commuter rail stations will begin in spring 2008.
- The first order of passenger cars is expected to be delivered in 2009.
Northstar Corridor Development Authority
2100 3rd Avenue, Anoka, Minnesota 55303-2265 (763) 323-5729 1-888-478-6782 Fax: (763) 323-5682
• • . • •
The design features interlocking arcs of red, ye/%w and white on a blue
background, leading to a bold yel%w star.
