REQUEST FOR ACTION
To Item Number
Ci Council 3.11.
Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by
Community Development January 7, 2008 Jeremy Barnhart, AICP
Plannin Mana er
Item Description Reviewed by
Authorization to Direct Staff to Research Possible Zoning
Ordinance Amendment Pertaining to Restaurants in Business Reviewed by
Park Zoning District
Action Requested
Council authorization for staff to research possible ordinance amendment to allow restaurants in the
Business Park Zoning District.
Summary
Economic Development staff and the EDA have spoken the last several months about the potential for a
restaurant to be located in the Mulvaney Point subdivision, immediately north of the Wal-Mart shopping
center. The site may be known as the "Post Office" site, as the property is currently owned by the
United States Post Office.
In researching the regulations governing the property, it was noted that a restaurant is neither a permitted
nor conditional use in the Business Park Zoning District. It is staff's understanding that more `sit down'
restaurants are encouraged in the City. Allowing restaurants in the Business Park Zoning maybe one way
to increase options.
With Council authorization, staff will prepare an ordinance for the Planning Commission and City
Council's consideration.
Attachments
None
Action Motion by Second by Vote
Follow Up
S:\PLANNING\Case files\OA\CC authorization to review Restaurants in BP.doc
