<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />October 7, 1957 <br /> <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was called to order on Oct 7, 1957 by Harry <br />Dow, Acting Mayor in the absence of Mayor Schwartz. All other members were present. The <br />minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Fred Sandberg and H.A. Briggs reported on a meeting with the school board regarding having <br />someone to have charge of the skating rink. The school board agreed to be responsible for getting <br />someone to take charge of the rink if the village would appropriate $300.00 for the season. <br /> <br />Motion by Sandberg and second by Meyer to appropriate $300.00 for this purpose. Carried. <br /> <br />Attorney John E. MacGibbon was present and there was discussion regarding Village zoning. Mr. <br />MacGibbon will investigate what is the best to do and report to the Council. <br /> <br />There was discussion in regard to black topping the County road through the village. As it is rather <br />late in the season nothing further was done. <br /> <br />There was a discussion about making contracts with adjoining townships and the village fire <br />department. We will take this up with Elk River Township, Otsego, and Big Lake. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyer to authorize Lester Derr to buy a used <br />mower at a price not to exceed $137.50. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Motion by Sandberg and second by Briggs to make contract with State Highway Department for <br />snow removal. Motion carried. <br /> <br />August Leider appeared. He has received bills of over $600.00 for sewer installation and plumbing <br />which he is unable to pay. The Council advised him to contact the bank in regard to a loan on his <br />house. <br /> <br />Oliver Micheau reported that he believes bike licenses are necessary. He agreed to look this up <br />further. <br /> <br />The following Building permits were allowed: <br />FJ Konop <br />Leo Lemke <br />Earl Lamm <br />Ronald Pouliot <br />Elk River Home Improvement Co <br />Elk River Concrete Products Co <br />Ben Roper <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed: <br />First Nat’l Bank insurance 79.68 <br /> <br />
