<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 3, 1909 <br /> <br /> <br />The Common Council met at the office of O.J. Whiteman, February 3, 1909 called to order at 8:00 <br />p.m. <br /> <br />Members present: F.L. Salter, President, L. Pollard, J. Virgin, B. Carr trustees, O.J. Whiteman, <br />recorder. <br /> <br />Minutes were read from last meeting and approved. <br /> <br />The matter of replanking and repairing the bridge across the Elk River in upper town was <br />considered. It was decided that the committee on streets and sidewalks should examine the bridge <br />and see what was needed. Motion was made by Pollard seconded by Virgin to advertise for bids for <br />furnishing the lumber ???. The recorder was instructed to confer with the committee and there <br />advertise for such bids. <br /> <br />Duties of Village Marshal was considered and recorder instructed to incorporate in the minutes the <br />following: it shall be the duty of the Village Marshal to tend the street lamps, keeping them clean and <br />repaired, lighting them every night that is dark, regardless of moon schedule. <br /> <br />He shall tend to the fire engine keeping it ready for in/and use. See that the hose is gathered up, <br />dried, and reeled on the hose cart. <br /> <br />He shall see that the walks are cleaned after snowstorms. <br /> <br />He shall tend to drainage of streets after storms and ?? and see that the sewers are open and attend <br />to all other small details that can under his operation that needs to be done. <br /> <br />It was decided to retain S.F. Trask as Village Marshal at present at a salary of $50.00 per month and <br />to be paid for extra work. <br /> <br />On motion of Pollard seconded by Carr the recorder was instructed to issue an order to the Marshal <br />for his salary at the end of each month, without further action. <br /> <br />Marshal was instructed by the President to ?? ?? school pupils was not allowed in bowling alley and <br />pool room at prohibited times. <br /> <br />The following bills were presented and on motion allowed. <br />S.S. Task – work on sidewalk and towns ? to date - $5.20 <br />F. Fredericks – shoveling snow - $.75 <br />B. Carr - ? on snowplow - $2.75 <br /> <br />No further business motion by Virgin and seconded by Pollard adjourned carried. <br /> <br />O.J. Whiteman, Village Recorder <br />
