<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />November 3, 1958 <br /> <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Elk river Village Council was held at the village hall on November 3, <br />1958. Members present: Mayor Johnson, Meyer, Briggs and Bergerson. The minutes of the last <br />meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Bergerson to appoint Robert Kemper to fill out <br />unexpired term of Trustee Fred Sandberg, resigned. Motion carried. Mr. Kemper signed oath of <br />village officer. <br /> <br />Bids for police car were opened. Motion by Bergeson and seconded by Meyer to take time to study <br />bids before awarding contract on police car. <br /> <br />The bids were: <br />Flaherty Bros. $2,148.70 <br />Nickerson Bros. $2,095.00 <br />Elk River Motor Sales $2,067.00 <br /> <br />These bids included a Federal Excise Tax which will be refunded. <br /> <br />Ray DeMars appeared. He says the Elk River Concrete Prod. Co. has closed a road which has been <br />used for many years. The council will check with the village attorney. <br /> <br />Stanley Wheaton was present. He asked what the village would do about adjusting the taxes on the <br />vacant creamery building in case someone would buy it. There was a discussion, but nothing further <br />was done. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Kemper and seconded by Bergerson to make the following tax levy for 1959: <br />General Fund – 18 mills Music – 1 mill <br />Road & Bridge – 15 mills Library - $2,200 <br />Utilities Services 5 mill Firemen’s Relief – 1 mil <br />Poor Fund – 1 mill <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyer to appoint only three members on the <br />election board for the village election on December 2 and to set the voting hours at 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />There was a discussion in regard to policing the town of Elk River. A motion was made by Meyer <br />and seconded by Bergerson to offer to police the Town of Elk River by the village constable for the <br />sum of $50.00 per month. Motion carried. <br /> <br />The matter of the bids for the police car was brought up again. A motion was made by Meyer to <br />accept the bid of the Elk River Motor Sales for the police car at a price of $2,067/00. The motion <br />was last for want of a second. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed: <br /> <br />
