VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
August 4, 1958

The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Village Hall on August 4, 1958. All
members were present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the last
meeting were read and approved.

Harold Novatny was present. He made an offer of $30.00 for one of the old bath houses. The
council agreed to consider selling it at that price.

The question of licenses for p??nographs and machines in the village was brought up and upon
motion by Meyer and second by Smaberg the fees were left the same as last year.

Wallie Johnson asked about the street near his place. The council will take this up with Mr. Shattuck,
the zoning engineer, at the next regular meeting.

Mr. Mills, engineer for Lindsey, Carter, and Associates explained the situation regarding the sewer
extension in upper town. He said it is feasible from an engineering standpoint. It all depends on the
cost, either to the village or to those served by the sewer. There was discussion regarding costs and
sanitary matters. Mr. Mills is to contact the State Board of Health and let us know before deciding
on a hearing.

Donald Norris suggested that space for parking be provided back of the stores from Tierman’s to
the Coast to Coast store. The mayor suggested that the Street Committee look into the matter
further.

Mayor Johnson read a petition for vacating one half of Quincy Street between Main Street and
Mississippi River. Kendal Houlton spoke in favor of vacating. Attorney Robert Johnson against
vacating.

Motion by Bergeson and seconded by Meyer that the petition be tabled for the present. Motion
carried.

The council had already voted to raise the level of the street past George Dietz’ new store. A motion
was made by Sandberg and seconded by Meyer to level and black top the street up even with the
Dietz property line. The motion carried all voting in favor except Bergerson who did not vote.

The following bills were allowed:
Dr. McNair – Playle case - $87.00
First National Bank – insurance - $87.44
Kemper Drug – Beach supplies - $2.61
Dr. Tesch – services - $5.00
Star News – printing - $11.95
League of MN ? – dues - $90.00
Elk River Lumber – mdse - $1.40
Earl Hohlen – storm drain - $350.00
Lindsey, Carter & Assoc. – Sewer expenses - $106.20
Earl Hohlen – raising street - $232.00
