<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />August 3, 1953 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Aug 3, 1953. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> E.A. Parent, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, <br />Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Parent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />Mr. Henry Engelke asked if the village would give some assistance in case he puts in sewer from the <br />back of his property instead of from the front. <br /> <br />The council was of the opinion that the village could not stand part of the expense as the rear <br />connection would be on Mr. Engelke’s property. <br /> <br />A delegation made up of Oliver Micheau, Robt. Handke and E.R. VandenBerge brought up the <br />matter of a village curfew. There was some discussion and the village clerk was asked to write the <br />League for a sample ordinance. <br /> <br />August Leider asked if the council would allow him an allowance in wager. The council agreed to <br />ststst <br />allow him one dollar an hour beginning Aug 1. Also back pay from Jan 1 1953 to Aug 1 to apply <br />on his taxes on his home. <br /> <br />A letter was received from L.A. Dare regarding improvement of the alley back of the printing office <br />and from there to the Caley building. No action was taken at this meeting. <br /> <br />A delegation from Becker brought up the matter of a recent ruling by the Attorney General <br />regarding the use of sirens and red lights on cars of police officers and private persons. The council <br />asked village attorney, John McGibbon to write the Attorney General for information. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyer to appoint Henry Engelke on the Library <br />Board to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs. Mary Howard. Carried. <br /> <br />Council agreed to close swimming pool Aug 15. <br /> <br />A letter was received from the Library Board stating their opinion in regard to the remodeling of the <br />village hall. <br /> <br />Earl Hettrick, manager of the Municipal Liquor Store, was present and there was some discussion in <br />regard to the inventory. <br /> <br />A motion by Dow and second by Bailey to transfer enough money from the Liquor Fund to pay <br />$5000.00 of registered sewer warrants and interest at the First Nat’l Bank.
