<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />January 5, 1953 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Jan 5, 1953. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> E.A. Parent, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, <br />Clerk <br />August Meyer <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Parent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />The clerk reported the results of the recent village election: <br />Trustee – August Meyer <br />Clerk – H.A. Briggs <br />Constable – Oliver Micheau <br />Assessor – Ben Gray <br />Justice of the Peace – Morris Wilson <br /> <br />The new officers were sworn in. <br /> <br />Archie Larson, President of the Commercial Club, brought up the matter of parking in the down <br />town district. He suggested a three hour limit for parking. There was some discussion but no <br />definite action was taken at this meeting. <br /> <br />Kendall Houlton asked for a street light in the vicinity of his place and Frank Dreissig and Andrew <br />Horvath. The Council agreed to recommend to the Commission that a light be placed there. This <br />upon motion by Bailey and seconded by Dow. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Earl Hettrick was present. He asked that a new ice cube machine be purchased for the Municipal <br />Liquor Store. <br /> <br />The Council agreed to buy a new one and trade in the old one. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyers to appoint John E. McGibbon Village <br />Attorney. Carried. <br /> <br />The following standing committees were appointed: <br />Sewer Committee – Parent, Bailey, Meyer <br />Parks and Playgrounds – Briggs, Meyer <br />Liquor Committee – Parent, Meyer, Dow <br />Relief Committee – Briggs, Bailey <br /> <br />The bond of H.A. Briggs as village clerk was approved. <br /> <br />The following bills were approved and ordered paid: <br />Skelly Oil Co – fuel for hall 28.48 <br /> <br />
