<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />November 3, 1952 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Nov 3, 1952. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> E.A. Parent, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, R.A. Ryding, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, <br />Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Parent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Ryding to ask the village attorney to start <br />condemnation proceedings to obtain title to tract of land on west shore of Lake Orono for park <br />purposes. Land is now owned by Wexter estate south of Highway 10. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Dow and seconded by Bailey to issue official notice to the Municipal Liquor <br />Store and beer taverns in the village not to sell liquor nor beer to the following persons: <br />Harley Rohlf and J. Madsen <br /> <br />Motion carried and the village marshall instructed to prepare such notices. <br /> <br />For the reason that the village has no further use for one of the jail cells a motion was made by <br />Ryding and seconded by Dow to sell one jail cell to Fred Brenteson for $35 per ton. Carried. <br /> <br />For the past two years, certain work on the sewer has been paid for out of the General and Road <br />and Bridge Funds. To correct this, a motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Ryding to transfer <br />from the Sewer Maintenance Fund to the General Fund $500.00 for 1951 and $500.00 for 1952. <br />Motion carried and the clerk was asked to have the transfer made. <br /> <br />The matter of the village election was brought up. A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by <br />Bailey to have the polls open from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Ryding to allow village treasurer to hold over for <br />one more year or until 1953 to confirm to recent state law which requires the treasurer to be elected <br />in odd numbered years. Carried. <br /> <br />Building permits were approved for Oscar Odegard and Bernard Fiers. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and ordered paid. <br />Dares – chaire rental 13.50 <br />Dares – dehumidifier 139.75 <br />Rosenwald-Cooper Inc – signs 18.72 <br />Minn Fire Extinguisher Co – supplies 3.00 <br />Star News and Pub – Ordinance No. 44 7.20 <br />Farm Bureau – fuel oil 39.99 <br />Fire Department – services 139.50 <br /> <br />
