The Commission recommended staff work with Spectrum <br />to define capital costs, and present ideas for a potential ice rink at the Spectrum High School recreation <br />facility. <br />In return for the city purchasing the rink, maintaining the ice and providing warming house attendants, <br />Spectrum offered the location for community use of the warming house with heated restrooms on <br />evenings and weekends as well as parking lot snow removal. They indicated they would expedite capital <br />improvements of $185,000 for rink lighting parking lot area improvements. Spectrum would also <br />maintain and clean the warming house. <br />Various rink options are available from wood frame to galvanized steel framed dasher boards. Spectrum <br />prefers the steel galvanized dasher boards because of their potential for a future varsity high school <br />hockey program that could add refrigeration and a dome to the facility. <br />The city costs to maintain the ice and provide warming house attendants would be covered by <br />discontinuing the ice rinks at Lion John Weicht Park and Kliever Lake Fields Park, both of which only <br />have partial hockey boards. <br />Financial Impact <br />The cost to purchase, deliver and install dasher board for an outdoor regular high school ice rink in is the <br />range of $60,000 to $105,000. An optional concrete pad for smoother ice is estimated at $55,000.
