Ach, City Planner <br /> DATE: March 9, 1995 <br /> SUBJECT: Summary of Comments Received from <br /> the Steering Committee Opinion Line <br /> Between February 1st and February 28th, residents were given the <br /> opportunity to call a "Steering Committee Hotline" and express their opinion <br /> regarding the visual appearance of Elk River. The following is a list of <br /> comments that stood out from the 21 phone calls received during the four- <br /> week time period. Following each comment in parenthesis is the frequency <br /> the comment was mentioned. <br /> • The City's appearance should be enhanced with flowers, points of interest <br /> and historical areas. (1) <br /> • The City should consider improving its animal control and establish a <br /> pound for stray animals. (1) <br /> • Concerned Elk River is losing its character and motto "where Country and <br /> City Flow Together". (7) <br /> • Development should not include the clear-cutting of woods; rather, protect <br /> natural features. (6) <br /> • Development of more trails/parks in the community will be an asset. (9) <br /> • The City should make better use of the lakes and river front. (5) <br /> • The new modernization along Highway 169 in the vicinity of Elk Park <br /> Center is appreciated. (3) <br /> • A quality sit-down restaurant is needed within the community. (3) <br /> • City should establish and enforce ordinances regarding garbage, <br /> abandoned cars, maintenance of yards and general appearance of <br /> property. (7) <br /> • The City should consider thoroughfares in the central and northern parts <br /> of the community. (4) <br /> • Park development could be improved. (3) <br /> • Need to improve housing opportunities. (4) <br /> • The development along Highway 169 is being swept with retailers and <br /> franchises contributing to the destruction of the aesthetics in the area. (2) <br /> • The City needs a well-supervised youth center open during the summer <br /> • and evening hours. (1) <br /> • Elk River should have a taxi service with a small fee.
