Fo Ki4t jt-fit
November 29, 1999
INITIATIVE
FOUNDATION
Paul Steinman, Director of Economic Development
City of Elk River
PO Box 490
Elk River, MN 553 0
Dear Mr. Ste
Thank you for notifying us that the Elk River City Council and EDA has decided to
deny our 1999 request for funding. Although disappointed, we appreciate the
thoughtful consideration that was given to our request. And, we look forward to
continuing to work with the City on community and economic development
initiatives.
We would like to share that we have received additional contributions from two of
your neighboring cities—Becker and Rockford. Becker has now contributed 97
percent of the original request, and Rockford has provided us with 22 percent of the
amount we requested.
We will continue to send the City of Elk River an annual update in May or June of
each year. This report will highlight some of our key activities in your area, so you
can keep informed about the various projects we are supporting in Sherburne
County. In that letter, we will again ask that you continue to support our efforts
with an additional contribution. We will continue to ask that you give something
each year, which will help bring you closer to amount that we are requesting from
all cities in the region ($1.50 per capita). It is our hope that all of the cities will
provide 100 percent of our original funding request by the end of the Capacity Fund
Campaign (June 30, 2002). Again, each dollar we receive is matched dollar-for-
dollar by The McKnight Foundation, which will truly benefit Sherburne County
and the entire region.
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to call me at 877/632-9255.
Your interest and support of our work in the region is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Kathy Gaalswyk
President
CENTRAL MINNESOTA'S
INITIATIVE FUND
• cc: Stephanie Klinzing, Mayor
City Council 70 SE FIRST AVENUE
LITTLE FALLS.
