Elk REQUEST FOR ACTION
River
TO ITEM NUMBER
Economic Development Authority 9.
AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY
July 15, 2013 Clay Wilfahrt, Assistant Director of
Economic Development
ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By
Project Updates Brian Beeman, Director of Economic
Development
REVIEWED BY
Jeremy Barnhart, Deputy Director
CODD
ACTION REQUESTED
None
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The purpose of this report is to provide an update on the Economic Development Division's
ongoing projects of interest to the EDA.
Professional Services Bureau (PSB) Land Purchase
Staff continues to work with Professional Services Bureau and their representation to find a
solution to their parking issues. Staff has contacted several organizations offering financing
solutions, and has not found any grant or incentive financing to aid with the land purchase and
lot construction. Staff will continue to search for opportunities and work with PSB as they
progress.
PPC Abatement and Land Sale
The City Council approved the tax abatement at its July 1 meeting, and they are considering the
land sale at the July 15 meeting. Staff is recommending that they approve the sale of Lot 1 Block
1 in Nature's Edge Business Center for$1.67 per square foot. Preferred Powder will pay$1 for
the land at the time of closing, and tax abatement dollars from the city and county will be used to
pay back the land.
GIS Web Application
Staff is working with GIS Planning to implement a GIS based listing service on the city's website.
The site will be found at www.elkriversites.com. Staff often has inquiries about available property
in Elk River, and the GIS service will make Elk River much more friendly to developers and site
selectors compared to the Excel database of properties currently being distributed. Listings are
automatically fed in from several sources, and realtors and developers are encouraged to contact
the city with additional listings.
F1NE1Ei 11
NATURE
