City of <br /> Ells = REQUEST FOR ACTION <br /> River` <br /> TO ITEM NUMBER <br /> Mayor and City Council 6.2 <br /> AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br /> Work Session February 11,2013 Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By <br /> Selection of Ward 1 Councilmember to Fill Vacant Seat <br /> REVIEWED BY <br /> ACTION REQUESTED <br /> Appoint by motion a candidate to fill the vacant Ward 1 Councilmember position for a term expiring <br /> December 31,2014. <br /> BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br /> The City Council interviewed four candidates for the Ward 1 Councilmember position on February 5, <br /> 2013. Since that time, one of the candidates, Brett Dexheimer,has withdrawn his application. The <br /> remaining three candidates participated in a public forum hosted by the Citizen's League on Saturday. <br /> The Council will have received comments if they were provided at the forum. <br /> The Council may wish to consider taking a few minutes to discuss the process and their preferred <br /> candidate(s). <br /> Following discussion, the Mayor may open the floor for nomination(s). When the nomination(s) are <br /> complete, the Council will take one of two actions: <br /> 1) If one nomination is made, the Council will vote to appoint the nominee. The nominee needs a <br /> majority vote to be appointed. In the case of a tie vote, the Mayor will make the appointee. <br /> 2) If multiple nominations are made,upon closing the nomination, Councilmembers will complete <br /> a tally sheet that includes their name and the name of the preferred nominee. The deputy city <br /> clerk will collect the tally sheets and read them into the record. The nominee with the most <br /> votes will be the appointee. In the case of a tie, the Mayor will select the appointee. <br /> The successful appointee will be sworn in at the regular Council meeting on February 19,2013. <br /> ATTACHMENTS <br /> None <br /> Action Motion by Second by Vote <br /> Follow Up <br /> AWR <br />
