Item: 6
.ver
MEMORANDUM
TO: Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE: Aprill4, 2010
SUBJECT: Director's Report
• Parks Maintenance -Invasive species removal at Meadowvale Heights Park has been
very successful over the winter. Approximately 1,000 Siberian Elms have been
removed within the main trail loop. Stump grinding will take place this summer as
time allows. Maintenance staff is to be commended for this huge accomplishment
that will allow us to restore this area to native habitat.
• Parks Maintenance- The City Council approved $18,300 for new roofs and doors for
the buildings at Orono and Kuss ball fields. This work will commence the week of
April 12 and last approximately one week.
• Pinewood Golf Course -The early warm weather resulted in a early opening for
Pinewood Golf Course. From March 23 to the 31" revenue averaged close to $1,000
a day. In addition, staff has arranged to have the Zimmerman Junior Varsity golf
team practice at Pinewood during off peak hours. This will provide additional early
season revenue that is a windfall due to the early spring.
• Riverfront Jam- Staff has had conversations with a local business regarding
sponsorship of the Riverfront Jam and believes we will be able to continue this great
event through a sponsorship.
