~j
Elk River
Municipal Utilities
13069 Orono Parkway • P.O. Box 430
Elk River, MN 55330-0430
February 4, 2010
To: Elk River Municipal Utilities commission
John Dietz
Jerry Gumphrey
Daryl Thompson
From: Theresa Slominski
Subject: 2009 Inventory
Phone: 763.441.2020
Fax: 763.441.8099
At the February 2009 commission meeting, the final draft policy for inventory was
approved. Throughout the rest of 2009, cycle counts were performed and ayear-end
count was performed involving all field staff for the electric, water, and security
departments. Throughout the year, everyone stepped up to take ownership of a
successful inventory accounting. Mike Thiry and Chris King made improvements in the
organization of the storage and shelving area of the electric inventory, and identified
different ways to accurately measure the wire inventory. Steve Ziemer fabricated
additional storage units and carts to help with reorganizing and maintaining the
inventory. Pete Nielson improved the organization of the storage and shelving area of the
water inventory. Lorrie Franz and Judy McSpadden worked together to coordinate the
preparation of, the reporting and reconciling of, and the actual physical inventory counts.
All staff worked hard to provide timely, accurate submission of inventory sheets for
updating purposes, and were key participants of the actual physical inventory counts.
I have provided a Year over Year Inventory Summary and Comparison that provides a
great synopsis of the improvements that have been made and associates them with a
percentage benchmark for each year. We have moved from a .55° o shortage/overage
range to .04%. This success has definitely been a team effort and could not have been
achieved without everyone's cooperation and participation.
