MEMORANDUM

Item

/4.3.

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor and City Council

Scott Harlicker, Senior Planne~
June 18, 2001

Northstar Corridor Update

At the NCDA meeting held on June 7th, it was noted that as of June 1't MnDOT has
assumed control of the Northstar Corridor project. The NCDA is still evaluating it's future
role. It was the consensus of the members that they still wanted to provide input on the
project and be informed as to how the project is proceeding and of any changes.

The Authority was informed that the commuter rail project cost estimates have been
increased by 30 million dollars from 230 million to 260 million. This increase is due to a 10
million dollar increase because of federal safety regulations a 20 million dollar increase in
property acquisition costs.

MnDOT is planning on starting construction this summer on the park and ride facility
located at the proposed commuter rail station site.

There will be no meeting in July. The next meeting of the NCDA will be in August.

S:\PLAN NING~SCOTT~NCDA JUNE. DOC
