ZERWAS, CHIEF OF POLICE'~~
JUNE 2, 1995 I
AUTHORIZATION TO HIRE POLICE OFFICER
This is to inform the City Council that we have completed the
selection process for the police officer position funded by the
Cops Fast Grant. The selection process consisted of a written
test, physical agility test, oral interview, background
investigation and lastly a personal interview between the top four
(4) candidates and myself.
The top four (4) candidates were all excellent, and I would have no
problems recommending that any of them be hired. Unfortunately, we
are only hiring one officer at this time.
My recommendation is that we make a conditional offer of employment
to Richard Weiss of Fridley, contingent on him successfully passing
his psychological and medical examinations. My hope is that
Richard will start working for the City on June. 21, 1995. If
approved, I would also like the Oath of Office to take place at the
City Council meeting on the evening of June 19, 1995.
Enclosed with this memo is an update from the U.S. Department of
Justice on the Cops Fast Grant Program. As you may recall, we had
initially requested three (3) officers through this grant process.
As indicated in the letter, we will be given consideration for
additional officers sometime this summer.
If you have any questions in regards to this recommendation, please
give me a call.
TDZ/mlc
•
13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
