PAUL
Dear Mr. Klaers:
We have tabulated the bids received by the City on June 8, 1995, for the Main Street and
Evans Avenue Storm Sewer Improvement project. There were a total of five bidders. The
following table provides a list of the bidders and their total bid.
Barbarossa and Sons $370,991.85
R. L. Lazson Excavating 395,015.20
Bonine Excavation, Inc. 399,007.00
Northdale Construction 455,677.66
Latour Construction 504,911.35
As you recall, approximately two years ago a report was prepared regarding several storm
drainage issues within the City. In that report, we had initially estimated the cost of these
improvements, approximately $100,000 below the lowest bid submitted by Barbarossa and
Sons. Since that report, a number of things have changed which have caused the cost to
escalate. One major item is the need to remove, reinstall, and lengthen the culvert under
the UPA driveway access to TH .169. The total cost of this work adds approximately
$25,000 to the project. Other issues include a sanitary sewer line needed on Main Street
because the storm sewer interfere with existing building services and the realigning of the
storm sewer pipe and reconstnTCting the ditch along property lines in an effort to make the
properties belonging to Dr. Johnson and Earl Hohlen more developable in the future.
These items add approximately $50,000 to the total project cost.
As you are aware, Barbarossa and Sons is the Contractor who is currently working on the
Western Area Phase II improvements. They have successfully completed projects very
similar to this Main Street and Evans Avenue Storm Sewer project. Therefore, we would
recommend award to them as the lowest responsible bidder in the amount of $370,991.85.
Attached for the City Council's consideration is a draft resolution which accomplishes this
award.
WASECA
