ITEM: 7 <br />ver <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Parks and Recreation Commission <br />FROM: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director <br />DATE: August 12, 2009 <br />SUBJECT: Director's Report <br />• Minnesota Parks and Recreation Association Award of Excellence -River's Edge <br />Commons was awarded the MRPA Award of Excellence in the field of recreation, <br />parks and leisure services. The award was presented to the City Council by MRPA <br />President-Elect Jon Oyanagi. Mr Oyanagi sited the innovative design, environmental <br />sustainability and collaborative partnerships as examples of Facility excellence. <br />• Elk River Library LEED Certification- The Minnesota director of the United States <br />Green Building Council presented the LEED Gold Certification plaque to the City <br />Council on August 3`~. This confirms that the Elk River library is the first LEED <br />certified library in the state of Minnesota. <br />• The bid opening for the paving of the Great Northern Trail was held July 9`h. The <br />low bidder was Rum River Contracting Inc. with a bid of $234,831. This bid is <br />approximately $50,000 below the engineer's estimate.
