Item: 7 fiver MEMORANDUM TO: Parks and Recreation Commission FROM: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director DATE: July 8, 2009 SUBJECT: Director's Report Lions Park Facility Use Policy: The changes to the Lions Park facility use policy, addressed by the park commission at the June 10 park commission meeting, were tabled for further review by the city council on June 15. The city has facility use policies for multiple buildings and the council requested the city attorney review all of the policies for consistency and fairness. The Great Northern Trail project bid opening is scheduled for 10:00 Am July 9`''. After review by MNDOT engineers the bid will go forward for councIl authorization in early August. The Elk River School District is repaving the parking lot and adding and realigning some trails at Meadowvale Elementary school. This project will add a connection to the Great Northern Trail on the northeast side of the site, on park property. Staff have reviewed the plans and has submitted the following comments: a) The site has a well established native prairie landscape. b) The school's engineer shall provide a restoration plan and maintenance schedule for staff review prior to construction. c) The Parks and Recreation Department will require a final inspection before the school district releases final retainage. In addition staff will meet onsite with the project manager prior to construction in order to identify any issues or concerns. Elk Kiver Bound, a new cable TV show, highlights Elk River Parks and Recreation programs and facilities. Playback times are Wednesdays at 7:OOam, Thursdays at 5:00 pm and Saturdays at 7:00 pm. The first episode focuses on Pinewood golf course, Hillside mountain bike park, the Riverfront Concert Series and Woodland Trails park.
