Item # 9.2.
ver
MEMORANDUM
TO: City Council
FROM: Lori Johnson, City Administrator
DATE: June 15, 2009
SUBJECT: Review Mn/DOT's Plan for 2012 Mill and Overlay Project
Including Median Closures
During the 1715` Avenue Focused Area Study meetings, the Council and staff were made
aware that Mn/DOT intends to improve Highway 10 in EIk River from the intersection of
Highways 169 and 101 to approximately Jarvis Street. This improvement includes a mill and
overlay and median closures. Attached is a map showing the access changes that Mn/Dot
plans to make as part of this 2012 project.
There are three median closures proposed including the median at 173"' Avenue, the median
between 1715` and 165`" Avenues (near Jerry's Auto Sales), and a farmstead median just west
of Edison Street. In addition, several turn lanes will be lengthened including turn lanes at
1715C Avenue, 167`" Avenue, 165`" Avenue, Kelly Farm access, and Edison Street.
Finally, as you can see by the attached map and by Mn/Dot's planned improvements, access
off of and on to Highway 10 east of the interchange at 101 and 169 will change in 2012. It is
important to note that these median closures were planned by Mn/DOT prior to any
discussion of an interchange during the Focused Area Study meetings. MnDot controls
access along its highways and access may be changed by MnDot without City approval.
Attachment
^ Mn/DOT Project Map
S:\Council\Lori\2009\MnDOT Projects 2012.doc
