Item: 8.2.A
~.~.~.
.~..~~
ver
MEMORANDUM
TO: Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Steve Benoit, Recreation Manager
DATE: June I, 2009
SUBJECT: Adopt-A-Park Program Update
The Adopt-A-Park program is in the process of being updated. Several key factors have
been accomplished in the updating process:
• An information flyer has been developed. This flyer will be utilized in marketing and
attracting new groups into the program.
• Signage in the Parks has been updated. This signage recognizes the group that has
adopted each park.
In each Parks and Recreation Program Guide a specific park is being featured. As
part of the feature write-up, information on whether or not that park has been
adopted is also included. If the park has been adopted, information on the group
volunteering their time is featured.
The next step in the process will be to implement a detailed marketing plan to further
enhance volunteer recruitment. Some of the methods that have been identified as effective
marketing methods include:
• Posting of the Adopt-A-Park information on the City of Elk River's web-site
• Direct personal contact with potential volunteer groups such as scout groups, family
groups, and other non-profit agencies
• Consistent listing of Adopt-A-Park program information in every Recreation
Program Guide
Press releases in local publications prompting the Adopt-A-Park program
These methods will help us bring heightened awareness of the Adopt-A-Park program and
thus a higher level of community involvement.
