Present
were: Cliff Lundberg, Heidi Steinmetz, Tony Mikols, Karen Attia, Lorie Beil, Wendy Simenson and
Patti Hipsag.
Old Business: The HRA meeting for February was canceled. Nadeau's Building has been purchased by
Metro Plains. Heidi will have more details at the March meeting. There is a possibility that Nadeau's
may relocate downtown, this is unconfirmed.
Parking Lot Committee: Had 2"d meeting. King Street would be closed off from highway 10. There
would be no exit to or entrance from highway 10 into the parking lot. City Staff was questioned about
the possibility of reopening the exit that used to be next to St. Maximillians. MnDot wouldn't allow that
to happen. There have been no traffic counts on King to determine the impact of closing it off as an
entrance/exit. The only way out of the lot will be onto Main Street. The parking lot committee is
addressing the need for a stop sign or light on Main Street so that cars can get out during busy times of
the day. It was suggested that Terry Maurer, the city engineer on the project be invited to a Rivers Edge
Meeting so that we, as business owners can discuss our concerns with him. The lot will be started in the
spring.
Downtown Directory: The directory has been redone by Wendy. If you need any changes let her
know.
Dues: 7 businesses have paid their dues up to this point, Wendy will be sending out dues statements to
those who have not paid.
Snow Removal: A few questions were brought up about snow removal in front of businesses. There is
some concern about customers being able to get around the piles of snow made by the plows. It was
suggested that the city could possibly haul away or pile the snow in one location. It was also suggested
that we invite Phil Halls, the city street supervisor, to a meeting to discuss our concerns.
Connection to Art Soup: Many suggestions have been made to connect the downtown businesses to
Art Soup at Handke. Having banners on street lights to draw people into downtown. Line the street
from Handke to downtown with sculptures, old machinery with signs pertaining to businesses, cartoon
characters, people dressed in costume. It was also suggested that we offer rides of some sort back and
forth from downtown to Handke - possibly contacting Arne Engstrom about sled dog rides or horse and
buggy rides, or a trolley of some sort. Also suggested was putting flower barrels along the streets, or
some kind of unique objects with flowers in them along the way. Another idea was to have some kind
of community participation with races downtown. Other communities have had outhouse races, bed
races or a parade.
Placemats: We would like to contact Marlys again about reviving the placemat promotion for Art
Soup.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 AM
