Elk River\
Municipal
U
ities
13069 Orono Parkway phone: 763.441.2020
Elk River, MN 55330 ~ Fax: 763.441.8099
December 27, 2004
To: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission
,Terry Takle
Jim Tralle
John Dietz
From: Bryan Adams
Subject: Pickup Trucks
The 2005 budget contains three vehicles purchases of which one was purchased in
November 2004 for the security system.
Vehicle unit #6 is a 1995 4x4 F-150 pickup truck with approximately 99,000 miles and is
worn out. The body is also showing its age as well. Staff recommends this vehicle be
traded in and replaced with a new pickup.
Staff also desires to add a pickup to our fleet. We are constantly short of a vehicle to do
the miscellaneous parts running if a construction crew is short a part to complete a task.
We currently deliver this part with a line truck or larger available dump truck. Why put
these types of miles on a larger truck when a pickup truck will adequately due the task.
In the summer, our summer help needs transportation to get from job to job. We
typically keep our trade-in vehicles thru the summer and sell them in the fall. Even with
this strategy, the summer help often drives the heavier dump trucks. When a pickup is in
the repair shop, it is nice to have a spare truck in the fleet.
We have secured prices from the state bit and our local dealers. A bid tabulation will be
presented at our meeting with a recommendation. Also attached for your information is a
complete rolling stock equipment list with assigned employee and purpose.
