Item: 7 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Park and Recreation Commission <br />FROM: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director <br />DATE: April 8, 2009 <br />SUBJECT: Directors Report <br />• Youth Expo- On Apri14`'' the Parks and Recreation Department collaborated in <br />organizing the Elk River Youth Expo, held at Elk River High School. This event <br />brings together multiple groups that provide healthy activities and options for youth <br />in the Elk River area. A partial list of participants includes: YMCA, Elk River Parks <br />and Recreation, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Girls Scouts, Kelly Farm, Arts Alliance, <br />local church groups and local sports associarions. Groups have booths with <br />information about their summer offerings. In addition to informational booths there <br />are food vendors present as well as fun games and activities. This is the second year <br />that Parks and Recreation has collaborated in hosting this event. <br />• Staff has been working on a finding a sponsor to fund expanded hours at the Senior <br />Activity Center. Staff will provide an update at the Apri18 Parks and Recreation <br />Commission Meeting. <br />• Staff is currently reviewing and updating the facility use policy for Lions Park and <br />Trout Brook Farms Barn. Staff will bring these recommendations to the commission <br />this summer for review and comment. <br />Staff has been researching the issue eliminating dog waste in the parks and will <br />present a power point presentation. <br />
