• SPECIAL MEETING OF THE ELK RIVER <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />HELD AT CITY HALL <br />WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29, 2006 <br />Members Present: Chair Polston-Hork, Commissioners Anderson and Niziolek <br />Members Absent: Commissioner Kuester, Paige, Peterson and Nystrom <br />Staff Present: Chris Leeseberg; Planner/Park Planner, Tonya Love; Recording Secretary <br />Council Liaison: Council Member Gumphrey <br />1. Call MeetingTo Order <br />Chair Polston-Hork called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. <br />2. Public Hearing: Woodland Trails Grant Application <br />Chris Leeseberg, Planner/Parks Planner stated that the Ciry of Elk River is applying for <br />three DNR administered grants to assist in purchasing 36 acres of land adjacent to <br />Woodland Trails Park. Grant award is in summer 2006 and title closing is projected to take <br />place in January of 2007. Total cost of project is $900,000. $300,000 from DNR <br />• Remediation Fund Grant, $200,000 from DNR Scenic and Natural Areas Grant, $175,000 <br />from DNR Metro Greenways Grant and $225,000 from City of Elk River Park Dedication <br />Fund. <br />Commissioner Anderson stated it would be a great addition to enhance the wildlife area and <br />existing ski trails. <br />Commissioner Anderson asked if the Elk River Country Club was a conceptual drawing. <br />Mr. Leeseberg stated that it is conceptual drawing. <br />Commissioner Niziolek stated he was in favor of the DNR Grant and shared that this was <br />not the first time the Malmborg property was involved in expansion of Woodland Trails <br />Park. The Ciry of Elk River applied for a DNR grant back in 1994. <br />Chair Polston-Hork stated she was in favor of the applying for the grants. <br />Olen Mike <br />Dave Callahan; 18144 152"d St. Elk River stated he was in favor of the addition to <br />Woodland Trails Park, it would be a great addition. <br />Scott Schwabb; President of Elk River Country Club Board of Directors stated that <br />the Country Club supports the grant application and purchase. <br />• 4.
