• WORKSESSION MEETING OF THE ELK RIVER <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />.HELD AT CITY HALL <br />WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2008 <br />Members Present: Chair Nystrom, Commissioners Anderson, Boese, Larson, Niziolek, and <br />Scheldt <br />Staff Present: Bill Maertz, Parks and Recreation Director; Chris Leeseberg, Planner/Park <br />Planner; Steve Benoit, Recreation Manager; Rebecca Haug, Environmental <br />Administrator; Tonya Love, Recording Secretary <br />1. Call Meeting To Order <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Elk Rivex Parks and Recreation <br />Commission was called to order at 6:34 p.m. by Chair Nystrom. <br />2. Elk River Land Fill End Use Plan <br />Representatives from Elk River Waste Management presented and discussed cost of <br />installing a park on the landfill vs. installing one on another property as part of the <br />possibilities for the Elk River Land Fill End Use Plan. <br />• Elk River Waste Mana ement also shared that the are currentl a 1 ' with the State for <br />g Y Y PP Ymg <br />permission to use 4 feet of soil for closure of the cap on the landfill currently the standard is <br />2 feet of soil. <br />Commissioner Niziolek requested more information regarding other landfill sites that have <br />more active recreation amenities on them along with the cost of maintenance and stability of <br />the landfill before making any decision. <br />Elk River Waste Management staff said they would look into other sites and forward the <br />information on to the commissioners. <br />Commissioner Anderson discussed planting native prairie on top of the landfill cap, which <br />would help to keep out the wooded species. <br />3.
