Item: 9.2.A.
fiver
MEMORANDUM
TO: Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Chris Leeseberg, Park Planner
DATE: June 13, 2007
SUBJECT: Meadowvale Heights Park Playground
At the last Parks and Recreation meeting, a resident spoke at open mike regarding the desire
to see the playground installed, as was shown on the plan, in Meadowvale Heights Park.
The park does have an approved plan recommended by the Park and Recreation
Commission. This plan indicated aswing/gazebo area at the northern trail entrance with a
picnic shelter near the center of the park. Both of these additions were shown as Phase II
amenities along with additional trial located behind the properties south of 196`" Avenue.
Staff analyzed the park and has determined two things:
1. A larger playground structure would not be feasible at the northern trail entrance as
the topography would not allow a structure without significant removal of trees and
grading. This is why staff proposed minunal features at this location.
2. There is plenty of clear open area deeper within the park (around the proposed
picnic shelter), but staff is not certain if this is a desirable location for a playground
due to the secluded nature of the area.
Staff would like feedback from the commission regarding the resident's request.
