MEMORANDUM
TO: Ice Arena Commission, Members
FROM: Rich Czech, Arena Manager
DATE: September 28, 2004
SUBJECT: Agenda Memo -September 28, 2004 Special Meeting
3) School District Referendum
This fall the School District is proposing a bond referendum for $87 million. Attached
for your review is some information I received when I attended one of the informational
meetings that the School District held. John Barth, the District Activity Director will be
at the Commission meeting to discuss the referendum.
4) Barn Old Boards
As you may be aware of, the city was excepting sealed bids on the used boards. The
bids were due by Thursday September 23~`~ at 2:00 pm. At that time there was one bid for
$1,068.73. The only advertising that was done was through the local paper. This was so
that we would give the community the chance to bid on the boards before they were
advertised to other communities.
Our next step would be to except this bid, or to advertise statewide and in the local paper
to get a higher bid. I would recommend that we advertise the boards statewide in all trade
publications and newspapers that would be appropriate.
5) Goal Setting Session with City Council
The City Council is asking every Commission and Board to consider their top goals for
2005. The City Council has schedule a session for October 1 lth at 6:30 pm at the Lions
Park to discuss the priorities each Commission and Board has for next year.
Depending on if the School Districts Referendum passes or not may impact what or main
goals will be for 2005. If the Referendum does not pass there are several items that the
city will have to look at in the next few years, Roof for the Barn, Office space, bigger
lobby, and a storage maintenance room addition. These items are not needed in 2005,
however they should be considered in the "big picture" of the Cities priorities in the
future. I have included a copy of the Arena's Capital Improvement Plan for the next
seven years; the items for 2004 have been completed.
